Jürgen Säumel

Jürgen Säumels first club in Juniors was TSV Neumarkt. 1999, Sturm Graz traded for Säumel to put him into their youth centre. Thanks to good efforts, he quickly was promoted to the pro, for which he started playing in the season 2002/03. In the same season, he won the Bronze medal with Austria’s U19-team at the European Championships in Liechtenstein. In 33 games for various Austrian U-teams he scored 5 goals. In 2004 Jürgen Säumel was named captain of Sturm Graz at the age of only 20 years. Continuing his good work he was also named to the national team’s roster. He debuted in the national team on 17 August 2005 under head coach Hans Krankl, when Austria played Scottland in Graz. The game ended in a 2-2 tie. After his second game in the national team he had to wait nearly 2 years for any further national team action. Säumel was also on the Austrian roster for the EURO 2008.
