Thomas Vanek inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame

ce hockey icon Thomas Vanek has received one of the sport’s highest international honors: The Graz native has been inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame, becoming only the fourth Austrian ever – and just the second Austrian player after Sepp Puschnig.

Vanek, who moved to Canada at the age of 14, shaped Austrian ice hockey like no other. With the University of Minnesota, he won the NCAA title in 2003 and was named MVP of the Frozen Four.

Vanek began his NHL career with the Buffalo Sabres in 2005 – and made history. He scored at least 20 goals in ten consecutive seasons and played a total of 1,029 NHL games. Twice he surpassed the 40-goal mark, and twice he scored more than 30. In the 2013/14 season, he became the first Austrian ever to wear the captain’s “C” for an NHL team.

With his induction into the Hall of Fame, Vanek’s exceptional career has now been formally honored.
