Great honor for Austria's former NHL star Thomas Vanek. The Styrian was voted into the Buffalo Sabres' “First Team” of the first 25 years of the 21st century by a group of selected players, coaches and journalists.
Vanek scored 254 goals in 598 games from 2005-2013, making him the fifth-highest scorer in club history to this day. Vanek also set up 243 goals with assists. In the playoffs, Vanek added another 15 goals, making him the second-best Sabres scorer of the 2000s behind Chris Drury.
The legendary Sabres teams of 2006-2008 makes up the majority of the team of the century. In addition to Vanek, goalie Ryan Miller, defenseman Brian Campbell, and forwards Danny Briere and Jason Pominville were also honored. The only current Sabres player on the “First Team” is defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.
